Call me...

Call me Frannie. My real name is Frances though. To tell you the truth, I was named after my dad's favorite Irish uncle, Alex. His middle name was Francis, so that's where my name comes from. Supposedly, Frances (or Francis) is a latin name meaning free man, or a man from France. The only really famous person that I've heard of named Frances (Francis) is Saint Francis. I saw a film about him when I was younger, and I thought it was so cool that he had the same name as me. I've also heard of Francis Sinatra, but he goes by Frank, so that doesn't really count. However, I have never been introduced to another Frannie. My 8th grade History teacher's mother was named Franny, but I never met her. So, I guess that means my name is pretty unique around here, which is pretty neat, I think.

  1. Hey, Frannie! I love how you explained your name and what it means to you. While most people didn't really dwell on it, you made it the true center to your words. I enjoyed hearing what you thought. I wonder if maybe you should go on a quest to find another Frannie? JK. Or not. Hmmmm. How do you feel about being named for somebody? (I'm not, so I don't know if it would be good or weird.) Nice blog, Frannie! (Sorry, having you write about it makes me feel like saying your name constantly. Maybe I should think about something else...)

  2. Frannie is repeating in my head now =]
    1. your curious, and questionable style makes this unique
    2. this leaves me wanting to meet another Frannie also
3.i think this ties in with the family, so a further draft can maybe talk about your family history

  3. HEY FRAN-MAN.
    1. I really liked the way you went in depth about your real name because to me that is more interesting than something people make-up. I also thought you did a really nice job of copying Vonnegut's style of jumping around.
    2. (If this is personal don't worry about answering) How do you feel about the fact that almost all of the Francises(sp?) mentioned were men?
    3. Maybe in your next draft you could add a paragraph about your feelings toward being called Frannie (like how John wanted to be called Jonah.)

  4. Frannie! I loved this and I loved seeing where your name came from. I think you need to maybe try to use more of a Kurt Vonnegut approach in another draft because I'm not seeing too many similarities to his writing. I can't wait to see what else you write!

  5. Frannie,
I think it is very interesting about the history of your name but it doesn't really relate to the style of Kurt Vonnegut, like Kara said but i fell like you have the ideas your need to write in the way he does you just need to create a story more his style of writing, it was very fun to learn about you thought!

  6. It is so cool how your name is so unique, and you are right St. Francis is amazing. He is one of my favorite saints. By the way here is another slightly famous frances, Frances Cleveland wife of president, Grover Cleveland. I am excited to hear the end of your quest to find more Franceses.
